Spilbridge before the Court of Justice of the European Union hoping to oust the English worldwide freezing orders targeting the assets of third parties not involved in the main proceedings before the English court

May | 2015

Case C-559/14 Meroni turns on the issue of whether Latvian courts may deny enforcement of such English worldwide freezing orders that target the assets of such persons that are not involved in the main proceedings before the English court. We argue that allowing the enforcement of such orders in Latvia would be against the public policy in Latvia. We argue that such persons who have not even been sued in England and hence are not blamed for any wrongdoing do not have to spend time and resources to engage lawyers and request the English court to discharge the freezing order against them.

Daimars Skutans is the lead counsel in this matter.
